About the Human Anatomy Learning Laboratory (H.A.L.L.)
What is the H.A.L.L.?
UConn’s Human Anatomy Learning Laboratory (H.A.L.L.) is a state-of-the- art facility dedicated to hands-on, experiential anatomical education. Serving as the University’s primary hub for the study of the human body, we provide unique opportunities for students and professionals to learn the essentials of human anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, and pathology through direct encounters with the tissues and structures. Our programs are centered on real human cadaver dissection combined with microscopy, models, and simulation support.

Our Educational Philosophy
Mastery of human anatomy requires an immersive, hands-on, three- dimensional experience. The learning that takes place in H.A.L.L. simply cannot be replicated in textbooks or digital simulations. By working directly with actual human organ structures and tissues, learners gain a deep, comprehensive appreciation for anatomical relationships and variations – this is knowledge essential for developing the skills and intuitions required for the safe and effective delivery of many vital healthcare interventions. Additionally, it helps students to understand how the regional organization of the body supports the systemic functions of human physiology.
A State of the Art Facility
H.A.L.L. is designed for comfortable, safe, and modern instruction, moving beyond the traditional hallmarks of a cadaver lab.
Advanced Environment
Our lab features computer-controlled air filtration and six negative-pressure Mortech dissection tables, effectively eliminating formaldehyde odor, ensuring a comfortable, clean learning experience.

Capacity and Technology
The 700-square-foot lab accommodates up to 30 students for simultaneous instruction and is equipped with three high-definition video cameras and a large monitor for real-time in-person or remote display. This system is augmented with a digital interface Nikon stereo-optic microscope that supports simultaneous macro and microscopic examination of tissues
Location
We are housed within the University of Connecticut’s Storrs, CT Campus’ Department of Kinesiology, supporting multiple modes of in-person and asynchronous teaching.

UConn Credit Programs
We provide foundational, hands-on learning experiences for graduate students across various healthcare disciplines, including Physical Therapy, Athletic Training, Nursing, and Surgical Neurophysiology and Intra-Operative Neuromonitoring. Additionally, we provide laboratory experiences for undergraduates in Exercise Science and Allied Health who aspire to pursue graduate healthcare degrees.

Continuing Education
Our expert-led, in-person courses offer professional development, skill enhancement, and may fulfill requirements that aid in licensure renewal for practicing healthcare providers, including Physical Therapists, Nurse Practitioners /APRNs, Athletic Trainers, Occupational Therapists, Physician Assistants/Associates, and Radiologic Technologists. See the course offerings section.

Non-Credit Exploration Programs
We welcome motivated high school students and pre-health undergraduates seeking a powerful, foundational introduction to human anatomy before entering college and professional health programs. See the course offerings section.
